The client for this project had recently bought this mid-terrace former council house. It was lacking in space, had very little natural light and a large rear garden which was North facing and had very little connection to the house.

The design sought to provide a bright and spacious kitchen and living space, in spite of its Northern aspect, which would connect the original house to its large garden.

The ceiling from the original hallway runs out to the new kitchen while the floor steps down and falls away giving the kitchen a 11ft ceiling, lit from above by a full width frameless rooflight, which then steps down to form the living room ceiling. The living room is also lit by a large rooflight and a large fully glazed bi-fold door frames a beautiful view out to the large North facing rear garden.
