This old artisan cottage in Smithfield was limited on space both inside and out, but full of period character and charm. It had an out-house, no kitchen and was badly in need of modernisation.
The design consists of a new modern oak clad bathroom pod, inserted into the middle of the ground floor, between the original living room to the front of the house and a new single storey modern extension to the rear. Sliding doors allow the spaces to be opened up or closed giving maximum flexibility.
At the rear of the house the entire rear wall of the extension is formed by an Iroko framed pivot glass door which allows the kitchen and rear garden to be seamlessly connected givinng a greater feeling of space and utility to both.
