The People's Park Pavilion had fallen into severe disrepair over the years. The council sought to restore the building back to its original grandeur while modernising it enough to where it could earn its keep as a fully functioning restaurant. This was achieved by the insertion of a new modern extension, with minimalist double height glazed walls and butterfly wing sedum roof, into the middle of the existing building plan.

The result is an elegant mix of old historic details of brick and cast iron perfectly integrated with modern glass and aluminium. The new dining hall enjoys lots of natual daylight and feels bright and comfortable. The original cast iron stairs which flank the original building have been faithfully restored and once again allow access for the public to enjoy the sea views from the roof terrace.
